Western Bulldogs Veteran Taylor Duryea Extends Contract for 2025
Veteran Defender Signs One-Year Extension
Western Bulldogs veteran Taylor Duryea has inked a one-year contract extension, extending his AFL career into a 16th season. The 33-year-old defender played a significant role in the Bulldogs' 2024 campaign, featuring in 22 of 24 games.
Proven Durability and Consistency
Despite being delisted at the end of last season, Duryea has shown remarkable resilience, not falling down the depth chart despite the signings of Nick Coffield and Buku Khamis. This one-year deal marks the eighth such contract in Duryea's 214-game AFL career.
Early Career and Three-Peat Success
Drafted in 2009, Duryea initially bided his time at Box Hill, later playing a pivotal role in the Hawks' three-peat era under Alastair Clarkson. He joined the Bulldogs in 2018 after 118 games with Hawthorn.
Nearing Dual Father-Son Milestones
With his contract extension, Duryea is on track to reach 100 games for the Bulldogs early next year, securing father-son qualification at both clubs. He previously played 214 games for Hawthorn.
Roster Flux for the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs have experienced roster turnover recently, with star midfielders Bailey Smith and Jack Macrae requesting trades. The club has yet to offer contract extensions to Norm Smith medallist Jason Johannisen or veteran key defender Alex Keath, with decisions expected in the coming weeks.
