Luke Parker's VFL Suspension Extended After Appeal Fails
VFL Ban Upheld
Former Sydney Swans captain Luke Parker will miss an additional five games following the dismissal of his appeal against a VFL suspension. Parker had previously served one game of a six-match ban for a heavy bump in a VFL match.
Appeal Dismissed by VFL Appeal Board
The Swans had sought to reduce the ban to four games, arguing that the original suspension was excessive. However, the VFL Appeal Board rejected their submissions, upholding the original six-game penalty.
Parker's Absence from AFL
The extended ban means that Parker will not return to AFL action until well into July. He had hoped to force his way back into the Swans lineup after recovering from a pre-season injury. However, Sydney's strong start to the season, with only one loss, and the impressive form of midfielders Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner have kept Parker on the sidelines.
Heavy Bump on Frankston Opponent
Parker's suspension stems from a heavy bump on Frankston opponent Josh Smith on May 17. Smith was taken to hospital with injuries and is expected to be sidelined for up to 10 weeks.
Parker's Accomplishments
Despite the suspension, Parker remains a respected and accomplished player with 283 AFL games, three Sydney Swans best and fairest awards, and a premiership victory in 2012. His absence from the Swans' lineup will be a blow to the team, but they will be confident in their ability to continue their strong form.
