Carlton Delists Five Players Amid Injury-Plagued Season
Injured Players Depart
Following a disappointing season plagued by injuries, Carlton Football Club has delisted five players, including former high-profile recruit Jack Martin and ex-Giant Caleb Marchbank.
Jack Martin's Troubled Tenure
Martin, 29, joined the Blues in 2020 on a lucrative five-year contract, but his time at the club was marred by persistent injuries. He managed only 54 games in total, including just three this year.
Caleb Marchbank's Injury Struggles
Similarly, Marchbank, who was selected with the No. 6 draft pick in 2014, has battled fitness issues throughout his eight seasons at Carlton. He played just 56 games during that time after arriving from the Giants.
David Cuningham's Farewell
Half-forward David Cuningham, 27, has also bid farewell after eight seasons at the Blues. Drafted with the No. 23 pick in 2015, Cuningham managed just 58 games in his time at Ikon Park.
Untried Rookies Released
Untried rookie pair Alex Mirkov and Dom Akuei have also been released. Mirkov, a mid-season rookie pick in 2021, and Akuei, a Category B rookie from the Carlton Academy, did not make their AFL debuts.
Club's Gratitude
Carlton's list manager, Nick Austin, expressed the club's appreciation for the contributions of the departing players.
"We thank all five players for their commitment during their time in navy blue," Austin said. "Their perseverance and energy have been invaluable, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors."
