AFL Photos arranged for Vinh, who has an intellectual disability, to join chief photographer Michael Willson in covering a Hawks' training session and Sam Mitchell's media conference. Vinh's extensive photography portfolio includes collaborations with North Sunshine Football Club, martial arts events, and a street photography exhibition at Springvale Community Centre.
Behind-the-Scenes with the Hawks
Vinh received an official AFL photographer's vest from Michael Willson and was warmly greeted by players, including Will Day, who gifted him a signed guernsey. Senior coach Sam Mitchell and head of coaching performance Brett Ratten shared words of advice and encouragement.
Technical Guidance from a Pro
Michael guided Vinh through the best camera positions, creative ideas, and technical tips to capture the action. Vinh quickly grasped the technical aspects and demonstrated his natural talent.
Using Professional Equipment
Michael introduced Vinh to a 600mm telephoto lens typically used by professional sports photographers. Vinh adapted seamlessly to the large lens, capturing stunning images of his favorite player, Jarman Impey.
Post-Training Debrief and Feedback
After the training session, Michael reviewed Vinh's best shots with him, providing feedback on cropping and post-processing. Vinh showcased his skills in enhancing his images, demonstrating his passion and aptitude for photography.
