Junior & Youth Girls Uniform Grant Program: Empowering Inclusion in Community Football

New Program Supports Inclusivity in AFL

The AFL has introduced the Junior & Youth Girls Uniform Grant Program, in partnership with Fanatics, to promote inclusivity and support young girls (under 18) in community football. Applications for funding are open until June 30, 2024.

Funding Availability and Applications

Community leagues, clubs, and umpire associations can apply for funding of up to $3,000 for clubs/associations and $10,000 for leagues. The funding can be used to:

  • Replace white shorts with more suitable alternatives
  • Purchase female-specific uniforms (i.e., female cuts)

Importance of Inclusive Uniforms

Former AFLW star and current AFLW coach Daisy Pearce emphasizes the significance of uniforms designed specifically for women and girls. These uniforms address unique physical needs and create a welcoming environment for young players and officials.

Fanatics' Commitment to Empowerment

Fanatics Director Tyler Emsden highlights the company's understanding of the barriers faced by young girls in sports. The support for this program aims to empower girls to thrive in their passion for football.

Growing Participation of Girls in AFL

Australian rules football continues to attract more girls to the sport. Since the inception of NAB AFLW in 2017, the number of girls' teams has grown from around 600 in 2015 to over 3,300 in 2024. Participation rates for girls in junior (8-12 years) and youth (13-17 years) community football have also increased significantly.

Fanatics Partnership with the AFL

Fanatics' support for the Junior & Youth Girls Uniform Grant Program is part of a long-term partnership with the AFL. This partnership reflects the shared commitment to inclusivity and the development of football in Australia.
